Temperature measuring process
The system become active when there is a front facing human face detected within 1.5 meter from the screen. Once there is a valid face inside of the detection area, system will select the best position in combining the thermo-matrix detection to come up with the body temperature. Once the highest temperature is registered, it will continue to measure and make adjustment until the face leaves the area; or when there is a new event starts (new face enter the measuring area). The detailed events as below:
- SYSTEM READY: When face detected anywhere in the screen, system will change approach LED level light level according to the configuration.
- EVENT STARTS: When face is approximately within 1.5 meter and facing the device.
Response: Display “CLOSER” text and audio - SUCCESS MEASUREMENT: When condition is met, and temp is 35.8°C+ (the value is adjustable) then display the highest measuring result, user access search result based on face AI and/or QR code. Temperature measurement continues to update the highest temperature until the event ends.
- EVENT ENDS SUCCESS MEASUREMENT: When face leaves the measuring area for more than 0.8 second. The screen will continue to display the result for 10 seconds, then return to system stand-by mode if no new event starts.
- ENENT ENDS NO MEASUREMENT: When face leaves the measuring area, the screen will return to system stand-by mode after 30 seconds.

Physical and Environment
Placement of the VA110 integrated system:
- Temperature sensor position aims at average tester’s forehead. For example, when average test’s height is 170 cm, the mounting height will be 165 cm.
- Distance between tester’s forehead and sensor lens should be between 25 cm to 80 cm. When tester is at 50 cm distance, the face should position at middle of the marked area on the screen with the same size as the marked head size.
The temperature sensing station is designed for indoor use in a controlled environment temperature. The installation environment must meet following criteria:
- Device storage temperature -20°C to 70°C.
- System operating temperature 0°C to 50°C.
- Temperature body sensing range optimized between 10°C to 60°C.
- Temperature body sensing suggested environment temperature between 15°C to 35°C.
- Device measures surface temperature of the skin – instruct users to expose the forehead in order to get correct reading. Mask, sunglasses, face cover and other objects alike will block the reading capability.
- Avoid direct sunlight.
- Avoid high or low temperature background that could emit infrared particles – for example: kitchen cooking surface, heat, freezer/cooler, A/C unit.
- Avoid direct/very close contact of heat generating object (area heater, TV) that could interfere with the temperature sensing. Use of low conducting material to block out the heat if necessary.
Temperature sensor calibration:
The temperature sensor is a very sensitive device. The calibration of the device will highly impact the ideal result. Device automatically calibrates to adopt different environment. Please follow the guideline below:
- Device calibrates itself during the boot up process, please wait 10 minutes prior to use.
- During the calibration time, the measurement result might not be correct.
- If the device is moved, please wait at least 5 minutes so its self-calibration will adopt to the new environment.
- Please avoid using the system rapidly or change of the environment during calibration. It is best to move the system after power off.
Setting up the temperature station:
Because of the temperature sensor uses 5 ~ 15 mm waves to detect the IR radiation from the object to determine temperature, which sunlight also contents the wave within this range which could interfere the reading. VA110 is not designed to operate outdoor out of the box. If outdoor application is necessary, please follow the important guidelines:
- Use tent to block sunlight and leave only the walk path open
- Avoid high wind, rain, and provide proper ventilation when environmental temperature is high.
- Use additional layer of background so we can avoid temperature sensor to measure the tent curtain itself. For example, a solid white board, plastic wall.
- To the best possible, have the tent inside temperature controlled between 15 C to 35 C. If a heater / air condition is needed, please avoid sending hot/cold air directly into the testing area.
- Device placement
- Proper lighting to light up one (1) meter range at front of the camera.
- Avoid back light and ensure tester’s face can be clearly seem.
Outdoor tent design example – use low conduct heat blocking material (yellow blocks)

FAQ
How do I correctly measure body temperature?
When measure skin surface on human face, it is best measured on the forehead. Because forehead has the advantages of large area, which also offer the most stable controlled temperature of the whole body. Aim forehead area into the temperature sensing range will provide the most accurate result.
How does the system mark the body temperature?
System registers body temperature at 0.1°C steps and update its matrix measurement every 0.25s. It has the following three categories: (numbers can be manually adjusted)
- Normal: When normal body temperature is detected (35.8 °c to 37.5 °c)
- Fever: When fever body temperature is detected (37.5 °c to 44 °c)
- Too high: When abnormal high temperature is detected (44 °c and above)
What can I do if the temperature reading is not correct?
Temperature sensor works the best in a steady environment. In case of needing adjustment (i.e. height, different angles, move), please follow the guideline below:
- When there is a change of environment (i.e. moving the device, sudden on/off the lighting in the room, change of large portion of the background), please wait 10 minutes before use. System will adjust itself to the new change automatically.
- When first power up the device, please wait at 10 minutes before starting to use as the system calibrate itself.
How do I clean the temperature sensor?
Temperature reading can be affected when the lens is dirty, dusty or fogged. Avoid touching or have moister, water near the lens area. To clean it:
- Power off the entire system, wait for 30 seconds.
- Use alcohol based liquid on a soft-tissue fabric to wipe the temperature sensor’s lens, wait until the area is dry.
- Power on the system, and wait for 10 minutes for self-calibration.
